The Canadian operator was assessing the possibility of running casing in challenging well profiles, including approximately 4000-meter laterals, back builds, and build-drop-build configurations. They conducted sensitivity analyses to make informed decisions regarding casing connection selections, evaluating options for running them in hole both with and without floating.

Key Results & Value Delivered

  1. The operator utilized historical data from 16 well pad on AI Driller to build multiple engineering scenarios within a matter of minutes without having to waste time and effort importing models and manually entering data. The models and friction factors have been calibrated instantly to downhole conditions with AI Engineering to make accurate decisions on future well planning.



  2. Calibrated models have been applied to new designs to determine the maximum rotation, tripping speeds, and torque the string would be subjected to (maximum thresholds) to select the casing connections. Those Torque thresholds have later been added to AI Alerts for compliance monitoring


  3. The operator was able to quickly analyze multiple designs and casing strings to generate a standard operating procedure highlighting the friction factors with a traffic light visualization and proactive measures to reduce the FF to less than 0.2 with the drilling assembly before running the casing in hole.


  4. As a best practice, the operator started monitoring in real-time FF, Hookload, and Torque with AI Engineering on every well moving forward.
