Geosteering module helps reduce slide footage in difficult lateral.

Sliding is commonly needed to keep a lateral in a target window.  One Midland Basin operator drilled a new formation and had excessive sliding to stay within the target window.  Using AI Driller’s geosteering module, the directional driller noticed that geosteering interpretation indicated that several of these slides were unnecessary as the BHA was tracking dip changes better than the target window.

Key Results & Value Delivered

On the next lateral in the same formation and pad, the geologist agreed to open up the window to allow the BHA to track in rotation.  Slide percentage by footage improved from 14.5% on the first lateral to 6.0% on the second saving three runs and drilled the lateral section 25% faster.
